Qualcomm’s next-generation mobile silicon is beginning to take shape, with new leaks suggesting the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 could deliver near–top-tier performance without the usual compromises.

According to prominent tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is preparing both standard and ‘Pro’ variants of the chipset, expected to launch later this year. However, early details indicate the performance divide between the two may be narrower than in previous generations.

The biggest shift is at the CPU level. The standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is tipped to feature Qualcomm’s next-generation Oryon cores – the same underlying architecture likely to power the Pro model.

That would mark a departure from past strategies where base models received more limited CPU designs. Instead, differences may come down largely to cache allocations, with the standard chip reportedly featuring 6MB of system-level cache.

Graphics performance could see a notable boost. Leaks point to an Adreno 845 GPU with a six-slice architecture and 12MB of dedicated graphics cache. This modular “slice” design allows the GPU to scale performance more efficiently depending on workload – particularly beneficial for gaming and high-intensity applications.

Other rumoured specs include a cutting-edge 2nm manufacturing process from TSMC, alongside support for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 5.0 storage. Higher-end features – such as larger cache pools and expanded graphics memory, potentially up to 18MB – are still expected to differentiate the Pro variant.
