Samsung have released its latest operating system Beta and it promises better interconnectivity and a revamped Quick Panel but it misses some existing features.

Digitaltrends reports that One UI 8.5 Beta offers improved photo editing, the ability to use a Samsung phone as a microphone linked to compatible devices, more extensive customisation of Quick Settings through the Quick Panel, and updates to Clock, Calendar, Calculator and other system apps.

The One UI platform is being unified across devices for easier cross-device connectivity, better user security and shared content creation features.

But some features appear to have been dropped. SamMobile reports One UI 8.5 beta doesn’t come with Dual Recording and Single Take in camera options.

Dual Recording is popular with journalists for interviews and influencers as it allows recording from both the selfie and rear facing camera.

Single Take allows for the capturing of multiple modes of images and video in one camera action.

“It’s unclear why these modes were removed in the beta, but it’s possible Samsung is working on something new that combines their functionality. Both modes are incredibly useful,” SamMobile says.

The new firmware is being pitched initially at the Galaxy S25 series but Digitaltrends says it should be available for recent devices such as the Galaxy S24, S23 and Z Fold and Flip models soon.

But Australia is not among the countries receiving the Beta first up. The UK, US, Germany, South Korea, Poland and India will be first cab off the rank.
