Samsung Tipped To Secure Exclusive OLED Deal For Future MacBooks
Samsung Display is reportedly set to become the exclusive supplier of OLED panels for Apple’s first OLED MacBook Pro models. The move marks a significant win for Samsung in the battle for Apple’s premium component business.Â
According to reports Apple has chosen Samsung’s advanced 8.6-generation OLED manufacturing process over LG Display’s older sixth-generation technology, citing its higher production efficiency and improved yields.
Although Apple has not yet confirmed the figures, it looks likely that Samsung is expected to supply around 2.5 million OLED panels for the initial production run of Apple’s new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
The move is a departure from Apple’s typical strategy, where it uses multiple suppliers for its key device components.Â

Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro is also expected to introduce touchscreen functionality, something the company has resisted for many years in its notebook range. If launched, it would mark a significant hardware change to the MacBook lineup.
In terms of what to expect from the new OLED technology, there will be deeper blacks, higher contrast, improved colour accuracy, faster response times and better power efficiency compared to today’s currentMacBook displays which currently feature LCDs.
The reported agreement further strengthens Samsung Display’s position as the world’s leading OLED panel manufacturer and brings to the fore the increasingly important role of display technology in the premium consumer electronics market.Â
