Samsung Tipped To Launch Wider Foldable Phone With Tablet-Style Display
Samsung may be preparing a new type of foldable smartphone that could expand its existing line-up beyond the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series. According to recent industry reports, the company is developing a wider foldable device that could arrive as early as this year.
Details about the potential handset were shared by well known industry source Digital Chat Station, who claims the device is currently in development. If released, it could form the basis of an entirely new foldable product category within Samsung’s mobile portfolio.
The reported design would feature a large internal display measuring around 7.6 inches. Unlike Samsung’s current book-style foldables, the new device is said to adopt a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving it proportions closer to a tablet when unfolded. This layout could make it more suitable for tasks such as multitasking, reading documents and productivity applications.
While the wider screen could improve usability when the device is open, it may also create challenges when the phone is folded. A broader exterior form factor could make it harder to use comfortably with one hand compared with existing foldable models.

The leak also suggests the device could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which would align with a possible launch timeframe in 2026. The handset is expected to include a battery capacity of about 4,800 mAh, with a minimum rated capacity of approximately 4,660 mAh.
Reports indicate the battery could be divided into two separate cells with capacities of roughly 2,267 mAh and 2,393 mAh. This configuration is common in foldable devices where internal space must be distributed across two halves of the phone.
According to the source, the device is expected to be released in China, though it is not yet clear whether Samsung would later expand availability to other markets.
The wider foldable format is attracting attention across the smartphone industry as manufacturers explore new device shapes. Some analysts believe that by 2026, large foldable phones could become a key battleground among major brands.
Apple has also been mentioned as a potential competitor in this emerging category, alongside Samsung. Huawei is also reportedly developing large foldable devices, suggesting that the segment could soon see increased competition from several major technology companies.
