Samsung Invests In Its Own CPU Cores
Samsung processors in its phones are about to become 100 percent Samsung made.
Chosun Media in South Korea reports that Samsung has formed a team to develop its own dedicated chips.
The South Korea smartphone giant had previously produced inhouse chips. Samsung premium phones typically came with Exynos processors which were its own product. But they featured ARM CPU cores.
Apart from the kudos from building phones with its own processors, the move gives the tech giant an opportunity to produce and sell custom chips as a separate business.
It also places Samsung on a more equal footing with rivals such as Apple which moved to producing in-house processors for its smartphones and MacBook range.
The A and M series processors gave Apple a technological advantage in the market and the chance to add unique hardware features.
Samsung’s decision to form a dedicated chips team also eats away at the dominance of existing chip suppliers.
