Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra Reportedly Set for Major M16 OLED Upgrade
Samsung is reportedly preparing a major display upgrade for its next flagship smartphones, with the upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra expected to feature the company’s latest M16 OLED technology.
Reports say Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display have finalised plans to fit the two premium Galaxy S27 models with M16 OLED panels. If true, it would be Samsung’s first major OLED material upgrade for its Galaxy S series in three years.
The M16 material is expected to bring improvements across several areas of display performance, including brightness, colour accuracy, power efficiency and panel longevity.
Samsung Display is also reportedly pairing the technology with Color Filter-on-Encapsulation (COE), a technology designed to improve optical performance, and Privacy Display features that can restrict visibility from wider viewing angles.
The upgrade would also create more of a clear divide between Samsung’s premium and standard Galaxy S27 models with the regular Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ reportedly set to use M14 OLED panels instead. Though this would still be an upgrade over the M13 material used across several recent Galaxy generations, the Pro and Ultra models would receive the newer M16 technology.

The reported move comes as Samsung’s latest display technology is beginning to appear across competing flagship smartphones. M16 panels have reportedly been used in other high-end devices, increasing pressure on Samsung to bring its newest display technology to its own lineup.
While Samsung has not yet officially confirmed the Galaxy S27 lineup or its display specifications, it is expected the new Galaxy S27 family will launch during the first quarter of 2027. Screen sizes are reportedly planned at around 6.27 inches for the standard S27, 6.66 inches for the S27+, 6.47 inches for the Pro and 6.89 inches for the Ultra.
