Only released in March this year, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is having issues with its screen. 

Samsung has officially acknowledged the phones model’s “red screen” issue and has carried out an investigation into the matter, confirming it is a software-related colour calibration problem and not a hardware defect.

According to the company, there is an over-the-air (OTA) software update in development to resolve the red screen issue, avoiding the need for consumers to replace handsets or screens. 

Samsung said the issue is linked to display colour optimisation under specific conditions, apparently due to the OLED being exposed to strong ambient lighting. The strange discolouration is reportedly not caused by OLED burn-in or permanent panel degradation.

The problem has been reported by users who noticed a pink or reddish tint developing in the centre of the display, particularly when using maximum brightness or vivid display settings.

The issue appears to be affecting a limited number of Galaxy S26 Ultra devices according to reports that have surfaced across Samsung Community forums, Reddit and Korean online communities.

Samsung’s confirmation that the fault is software-based should reduce warranty concerns for retailers and carriers. Affected devices are expected to be fixed via software update rather than hardware servicing.

The issue is particularly significant because the Galaxy S26 Ultra is Samsung’s flagship premium smartphone and display quality is a key differentiator in the high-end smartphone market.

The incident highlights the growing complexity of advanced display technologies and colour management systems, where software calibration can affect how the screen quality is perceived.

Samsung advises affected users to wait for the software update announcement however has not indicated there will be a hardware recall or replacement program at this stage.
