Rugby Australia Taps Amazon Alexa For World Cup

Rugby Australia has partnered with Amazon Alexa to provide World Cup fans with exclusive news, wrap-ups and seamless LIVE audio coverage via voice commands.

‘Rugby Xplorer’ is available hands-free on Alexa enabled smart devices, and seeks to be an all-in-one World Cup fan engagement tool.

“The use of voice technology is rapidly growing in Australia and around the world and we are excited to be one the early adopters of this technology in Australia, which offers Rugby fans incredibly easy access to some great content,” claims Rugby Australia Head of Technology, Kevin Stafford.

Users are simply required to say ‘Alexa, stream the Wallabies game’ or ‘Alexa, launch Rugby Xplorer.’

LIVE audio coverage is available for every match in the Rugby World Cup tournament.

Exclusive features include news from inside the Wallabies team camp, a daily wrap of each day’s events, official team press conferences, plus RUGBY.com.au’s weekly show ‘Rugby Nation.’

“The Rugby Xplorer Alexa skill (voice app) will give Wallabies fans access to premium features including a LIVE audio call of every match during the tournament,” adds Rugby Australia Head of Digital and Marketing, Adam Freier.

“We are also excited to be able to bring fans behind the scenes into the Wallabies camp something we have never done before.”

The service is set to be expanded to cover elite level competitions such as Vodafone Super Rugby and Buildcorp Super W, all the way through to grassroots community Rugby competitions.
