Ruark Gives Its Compact R1S Radio A New Look For 40th Anniversary
British audio brand Ruark is celebrating turning 40 by giving one of its most recognisable compact radios a new limited-edition finish, with the R1S Smart Radio now available in a distinctive Terracotta colour.
The new finish adds a warmer look to the company’s compact R1S, which has built a reputation for combining the function of a traditional radio with modern streaming features and a chic, compact design.
Ruark describes the Terracotta edition as part of its 40th Anniversary celebrations, with the limited colourway scheduled to reach selected retailers from October 2026. The company is positioning the product as both a compact music system and a piece of home décor.
The R1S is considerably more than a conventional radio. It features DAB, DAB+, FM and internet radio tuners, along with Bluetooth 5 connectivity and Wi-Fi streaming.
The system supports Spotify Connect, Amazon Music and Deezer, so owners can use it for streaming as well as traditional radio. Ruark also includes podcast access, dual alarms and sleep functions.

Ruark’s decision to introduce a new finish rather than substantially redesign the R1S shows the importance the company places on its distinctive industrial design. The new Terracotta version joins other finishes already available, including Grey, Light Cream and Satin Charcoal.Â
While the R1S won’t undergo changes aside from colour for the anniversary launch, Ruark continues to expand its range beyond compact radios. The company has also brought out other anniversary products including the R410 Anniversary Edition, as well as reviving its Talisman-R floorstanding speakers.
The R1S, retailing at A$649, typically occupies a premium position in the radio market, which is typically dominated by inexpensive smart speakers and mass-market digital radios. The cutesy design combined with physical controls, traditional broadcast radio function and streaming services makes this R1S a stand-out.Â
The limited-edition Terracotta finish is expected to be available from October, with Australian pricing and availability yet to be confirmed.
