Arcam rDock-Uni iPad/iPhone + iPod $399
Tagged as the best way to get killer sound from an Apple, the new rDock-uni is made by UK audio guru Arcam.
The docking station built for iPhone/iPad/iPod streams Spotify, Pandora RDio, Tune-in Radio and tunes from your device at super digital quality. This audiophile dock processes music via an internal DAC, the Burr-Brown / TI PCM1502 and Arcam’s de-jittering circuitry.
There’s a Direct Lightning Dock made for newer iPhone 5 / 5s / 5c & iPad Mini / rMini / 4 / Air and a USB port to hook up older iDevices, located at the rear.
Just drop the device on the dock and hit play. It also comes with a remote control.
It costs A$399 and is on sale now.
Docking stations appear to have lost some momentum of late with the rise of Bluetooth speakers, but this is a great little device with excellent, high end audio sound. It also has digital SPDIF connectivity from an iDevice to high-end external DACs.
Arcam MD Charlie Brennan says the rDock is “the best way to get killer sound from an iPhone/iPod/iPad.
“Amidst all the fuss about wireless connectivity (including ours 🙂 the simplest and best solutions can often be ignored.”
Arcam’s de-jittering circuitry also gives a huge improvement in sound quality over the ‘i’ standard audio out.
The rDock-uni has a robust cast aluminium case, provides stable support for iPads/iPhones and iPods and charges connected device. It comes with a full complement of connection cables and accessories.
