Review: Tefal Dolci Ice Cream Maker – Frozen Treats At Home
Now to say that my son was excited for me to bring this machine home was an understatement. I mean what kid doesn’t like ice cream? Personally, I was more excited about the cocktails but I’m yet to get to making one of those. The Tefal Dolci ice cream maker is a compact and cleverly designed appliance that brings homemade frozen treats within easy reach. Straightforward to operate and quick to master, it’s ideal for beginners, families and anyone keen to experiment with small-batch ice cream, gelato, sorbet, slushies, milkshakes, smoothies, frappes, frozen yoghurt and even cocktails at home.
Unlike traditional machines with built-in compressors, the Dolci uses pre-frozen containers, keeping the footprint small and the operation noise minimal. One thing to keep in mind is that this is not a fast process. Once you make the ice cream recipe, it needs to remain in your freezer for 24 hours. Though once the mixture is properly chilled, the machine churns efficiently, producing smooth, creamy results in 1.5 minutes. Its motor is surprisingly sturdy for its size, maintaining a consistent churn without overheating. The open-top design also makes it easy to add chocolate chips, fruit or other mix-ins during the final minutes.

A standout feature is its versatility. The Dolci includes three Tritan containers (1.4L total) that can be frozen ahead of time, allowing users to prepare multiple flavours or single-serve portions without waiting. Ten pre-set programs and an auto-rinse function make the process simple from start to finish, and the accompanying digital recipe book offers plenty of inspiration.
The trade-off for its convenience and compact design is capacity. While excellent for households wanting quick, customisable treats, it may not suit those who regularly entertain large groups. Still, with its included tubs, lids, scoop and stainless-steel construction, the Tefal Dolci offers strong value.
At my son’s request, we made the Dark Chocolate Ice Cream from the digital recipes, and it was creamy and delicious (though devoured far too quickly). For anyone seeking fresh, personalised frozen desserts without the cost or bulk of a full compressor machine, the Tefal Dolci is a versatile, budget-friendly option that delivers consistently enjoyable results.

8/10
Pros
- Uncomplicated instructions and straightforward to operate
- Recipes are easy-to-follow
- The ability to make healthy and allergy-free options
- The compact design means that it doesn’t take up too much bench space
- Once the recipe is chilled, it only takes 1.5 minutes to make ice cream
- With the automatic rinsing program and full access to every part, it makes cleaning a breeze
Cons
- The single container capacity doesn’t suit a large family or those who like to entertain
- Having to wait 24 hours for the mixture to set. My son found this a particularly long wait
- Some ingredient residue is left at the bottom of the containers and is not mixed in, though this didn’t impact flavour
