Retailers Love New Ecovacs Robotics As It Delivers ASP Growth

If there is one brand that appliance retailers love right now it’s Ecovacs, the robotic Company that’s delivering a new generation of products that are stimulating consumers to still purchase a new product even during a downturn, while delivering “good ASP” claims retailers.

This week I caught up with the global CEO and Vice Chairman of the business that is also rolling out a neat new robotic lawn mower in Australia.

when I first interviewed David Qian the CEO of Ecovacs back in 2018 the Company was the new kid on the block, in what is now one of the fastest growing categories in the appliance markets.

Today the Chinese Robotics Company is carving out market share, creating new products and retailers love what they are doing.

Their latest innovations are a new square robotic vacuum cleaner, and a pretty neat $2,999 robotic lawn mower, that makes cutting the lawn a whole lot easier.

Back in 2018 Ecovacs was happy to actually be ranged at a retail store, today retailers such as JB Hi Fi, The Good Guys and Harvey Norman cannot get enough of the Companies products with the business now sitting in the number one position in the robotic vacuum market while also delivering what has been described as “excellent” ASAP for retailers.

Robot vacuum cleaners are literally cleaning up globally, with cutting-edge features and affordable prices and no one is doing it better than Ecovacs a A$4.9-billion-dollar Company that are giving the likes of US Company Roombas a run for their money due mainly to their robotic innovation.

I recently sat down with David Qian in Sydney, after my return from IFA in Berlin where robotic vacuum cleaners were diming a dozen.

The standout was Ecovacs and their new square Debot X2 Omni which can clean better in corners and along edges than round shaped robotic vacuum cleaners.

The X2 is a complete redesign of the Deebot X1 Omni, featuring a new shape, a more slimline look, and a toweringly high suction power (8,000 Pa) and mop lift capability (15mm). The automatic dock that empties the bin, washes and dries the mops and drains, and refills the robot’s water tank, is also slenderer.

According to Qian he is confident that his new vacuum offering will be a success in Australia which is the fifth largest market in the world for the Company.

Heir apparent the vice chairman claims that Ecovacs is a “vison led Company” that produces “single function products” as opposed to multipurpose products such as robotic arms.

Currently the business is working on some interesting initiatives with the real possibility of that one day, there will be a robot sold at JB Hi Fi or Harvey Norrman that has the ability to serve you a cold one direct from the fridge or be capable of serving a glass of wine or champagne.

The key to Ecovacs success is software not hardware he claims.

“We’re using automated driving technology,” he claims describing the company’s latest Deebot vacuums that use artificial intelligence chips and deep learning technology to control movement, scan a floor and map “Realtime”.

Everything we do today in the home is real time. “Robotics have to be instant and responsive” he said.

Qian claims that his engineers have vastly improved the navigation system and AI-powered obstacle avoidance capabilities on the X2, with a new dual-laser lidar technology.

The biggest change is that it can now “dynamically avoid” obstacles, choosing a new path when it gets interrupted, rather than constantly trying to go back to where its current path told it to go.

The new navigation system means the X2 can dispense with the lidar tower on top, as its lasers are built into the sides, making its profile lower and better able to get under low furniture.

Investors love the Chinese business because they believe it has “growth potential”.

Currently the business is capitalised at roughly five times that of U.S.-based iRobot, the Roomba manufacturer.

According to Qian Ecovacs has around 30% of the global market.

In Australia the brand is #1 and growing under the leadership of Karen Powell and her team.

Chinese Company, Roborock, backed by smartphone giant Xiaomi, is currently trying to break into the robotic vacuum market in Australia using a team of exe Huawei and Oppo executives.

Another product being launched in Australia is the $2,999 GOAT G1 – the company’s first robotic lawn mower.

Available from September 21, the GOAT G1 which I saw demonstrated today in Sydney is set to make cutting the lawn a lot easier.

Key is new cutting edge intelligence features that manage wireless boundaries, navigation and obstacle avoidance without the need for hours of setting up where it can cut the grass.

Australia will be one of the first markets in the world to offer the GOAT G1 claims Qian.

On board is wave communication, inertial navigation and GPS technology that ensure the GOAT G1 does not lose signal.
The device scans at 25 fps to ensure it is constantly aware of its environment, and the AIVI 3D algorithm with ToF sensors helps the robot to avoid obstacles.

Rather than using a traditional boundary wire, you can use boundary posts to mark the edges of your garden.

You can determine further boundaries in the accompanying app and amend settings such as cutting height, choosing between 3 and 6 cm.

With a 5.2 Ah 3A battery, the ECOVACS robot lawn mower is suitable for lawns up to 600 m² in size and can handle inclines up to 45%.
