A study of the 122 models of OLED smartphones that were launched during the first half of 2021 found that just three of them didn’t fall into the six-inch range in terms of screen size.
That equates to 97.5 per cent of phones that are made to be the exact same size – as opposed to 2018, where only 78 per cent were six-inchers.
Is this due to manufacturing considerations, or simply trend?
Interestingly, only one phone — Asus’ ZenFone 8 — has a five-inch screen, while there were no seven-inch phones releases. Only the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold andHuawei Mate X2 had screens in the 8-inch range.
103 of the phones had hole displays, 13 had notches, and six had narrow bezels designs. Not one model had a dedicated home button.
In terms of display area, 84.4 per cent had between 80-90 per cent of the front dedicated to the screen, while 13.9 per cent were over 90 per cent.
Sony Xperia 1 II had a screen resolution of 643ppi, the highest of the models.
