A Russian ransomware gang that is responsible for hundreds of attacks of major businesses around the globe has gone dark.
A blog and a payment site ran by the REvil gang suddenly went offline on Tuesday, and is yet to reemerge.
The gang’s disappearance has fuelled speculation they were targeted by authorities, following Joe Biden’s conversation with Vladimir Putin last Friday regarding cyber-crime.
Biden told reporters he “made it very clear to him” and “we expect them to act”, adding that the US would take direct action if Russia didn’t.
The FBI has previously accused REvil on being behind the attack on JBS, the world’s largest meat processing company.
More recently, the group demanded ransom, to be paid in bitcoin, for an attack on IT firm Kaseya.
