Austrian hi-fi specialist Pro-Ject has expanded its long-running Debut line-up with a new flagship model, the Debut Reference 10, set to land in Australia soon for A$2,349.

Positioned as the most advanced Debut turntable to date, the Reference 10 introduces a newly designed 10-inch hybrid tonearm that combines carbon fibre and aluminium in a single-piece construction.

The longer 254mm effective length is designed to reduce tracking error and inner-groove distortion, while the carbon outer layer adds rigidity and the internal aluminium tube helps dampen unwanted resonance.

The tonearm comes pre-fitted with Pro-Ject’s European-made Pick it PRO Balanced moving magnet cartridge and supports true balanced signal transmission via a rear-mounted mini-XLR output. Traditional gold-plated RCA connections are also included, though users opting for balanced playback will need a compatible phono stage.

Build quality has also been stepped up. The Debut Reference 10 features a 30cm satin-finished acrylic platter, chosen for its similar impedance to vinyl, allowing records to sit directly on its surface without a felt mat. Beneath it sits a diamond-cut, CNC-milled aluminium sub-platter designed to add rotational stability and mass to the drive system.

The belt-driven design uses a DC motor that is fully decoupled and suspended within the chassis to minimise vibration transfer. Electronic speed control enables easy switching between 33 and 45 RPM, while a manual belt change allows playback of 78 RPM records for collectors.

The hand-painted MDF plinth rests on three height-adjustable, TPE-damped aluminium feet for improved levelling and isolation. Pro-Ject also includes its Record Puck E clamp, dust cover, 7-inch single adapter and phono cable in the box.

Available in a satin black finish and handmade in Europe, the Debut Reference 10 represents Pro-Ject’s most premium take yet on its accessible Debut platform.

Pro-Ject also recently leaned into the CD revival, with its premium CD Box RS2 Tube priced at A$3,799.

Meanwhile, the brand launched the limited-edition T2 Scorpions turntable (pictured below), which pays tribute to the band’s 1982 Blackout album.

The turntable, which follows the brand’s Elvis Turntable, is based on Pro-Ject’s T2 platform and fitted with a Pick it 25A cartridge.
