Panasonic Takes On GoPro With Waterproof LUMIX FT7

As GoPro continues to struggle in the actioncam market, Panasonic has today unveiled its latest entrant – the waterproof and rugged ‘LUMIX FT7’ ($599) which is set to land in Australia in July.

Designed for outdoor use, the LUMIX FT7 is waterproof (to 31 metres), freeze proof (to -10C), pressure resistant (to 100kgf) and shockproof (to 2 metres).

The LUMIX FT7 features 4K capabilities, a 28mm wide angle 4.6x zoom LUMIX lens with folded optics and 20.4-megapixel sensor.

Panasonic claims its new outdoor cam delivers “outstanding visibility” in a plethora of outdoor conditions (e.g. fishing, skiing, surfing) complimented by a 3.0-inch, 1,040K-dot rear monitor, and 1,170K-dot equivalent Live View Finder (LVF).

Providing added protection, the FT7’s body has been thickened for underwater pressure, with ‘folded optics’ to prevent damage to the camera’s lens if dropped.

Panasonic claims the LUMIX FT7 has an “airtight body” for water, dust and sand protection.

USB charging, Wi-Fi streamlining, geotagging and smartphone remote control add modern day features to the outdoor-friendly FT7.

Designed for responsive photography, the FT7 features a 1/2.3-inch high-sensitivity MOS sensor with Light Speed AF for fast auto-focus.

Video is captured in 4K – 3840 x 2160 at 25p, and 4K Photo with 4K Pre-burst mode shoots 30 fps.
