Oz Video Streaming Audience Growing

The average Australian now spends online spend 12 minutes of every hour online to stream video, making it the most popular form of online entertainment, ahead of social media, according to a Fairfax report.

The report estimates that Stan, a joint venture between Fairfax and Nine Entertainment, now has more than 1.1 million subscribers, while Netflix is estimated to have around four million users.


Others subscribe to¬†Google’s YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime Video or other smaller players.


In a matter of months, Ten is expected to offer subscription video-on-demand with its current owner, CBS, launching Ten All Access, modelled on the US platform CBS All Access.


The Fairfax report says the broadcaster has so far kept quiet on what content will be shown and how much it will cost, However it notes that in the USA, CBS All Access costs US$5.99 for a service with “limited” advertisements, or $9.99 without ads and the ability to download for offline viewing. Seven has already started including premium upgrade options around major sports events like tennis and the Olympics for its 7Plus app.
