The HP Chromebook is powered by a micro-USB charger, so handy for on the go, devoid of a bulky charger.

Priced at US$279, HP are positioning it as a handy, ultra light laptop with Google Chrome OS. It has a magnesium frame, and a new screen with wide IPS 176-degree viewing angles, so its good for watching YouTube, videos, or multiple viewers.

Specs wise, HP Chromebook 11 also has: 2X USB ports, Micro USB charger, VGA Webcam, Exynos 5250 Processor, 16GB Solid State Drive and 2GB RAM, WIFi, Bluetooth 4.0.

It has all the Google apps built-in, including 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage (free for two years) and a free trial of Google Play Music All Access for 60-days.

The digital speakers are located under the keyboard and pointed up towards your ears.

Chromebooks, are seen as basic everyday PC’s for checking emails and browsing the Internet. But the Google OS also means you can start writing an email on your Chromebook and finish it off from your Android phone, and access all other info from your phone, tablet on a bigger laptop screen.

No local AU pricing has been released by HP yet.

Earlier this year, Samsung and Acer released Chromebooks in OZ , costing $349 and $299 respectively.

“A laptop should be light and mobile. So the new Chromebook is really thin with no extra fluff,” says Caesar Sengupta, VP, Product Management on Google blog.

The new HP chromebook 11 is on sale through US retailers Best Buy, Amazon, Google Play and HP Shopping as well as at Currys, PC World and others in the U.K.

It will be available in other countries that sell Chromebooks – that includes Australia – in time for the holidays, say Google.
