OpenAI’s Business Use Surges Despite Altman’s Gloom
New figures by OpenAI suggest that its business is surging in the enterprise market, a development that no doubt will please CEO Sam Altman who recently issued a “code red” email about the company’s future.
OpenAI, the market leader in AI consumer subscriptions, had been performing well in the enterprise space with a market share of 36 percent among US enterprises, compared with Anthropic’s 14.3 percent, according to the Ramp AI Index.
But Mr Altman remained worried due to a strong performance by Google’s Gemini 3 and enterprise defections to it, such as by Salesforce.
“I’ve used ChatGPT every day for three years. Just spent two hours on Gemini 3. I’m not going back,” said Salesforce CEO Mark Benioff.
In his “code red” email issued a week ago, Mr Altman said OpenAI was at “a critical time for ChatGPT”.
However, new figures offer Altman comfort. Techcrunch reports that the new data released on Monday shows that the takeup of ChatGPT’s AI tools had surged dramatically in the enterprise space in the past year.
The volume of messages on ChatGPT’s platform had surged eight times in that period.
Nevertheless the major part of ChatGPT’s revenue still comes from consumer subscriptions so it will be targeting enterprises even more.
According to US digital news publication Axios, OpenAI has committed to spending about US$1.4 trillion on infrastructure so far.
