Online Retail Buying Pauses

Online retail turnover contributed 5.6 per cent to Australia’s total retail turnover in September 2018, according to the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

That sounds quite impressive, but – at least according to Stats – it’s no better than the August 2018 figures, which also came in at 5.6pc.

Presumably there will be a sharp rise in November and December figures, reflecting the big pre-Christmas drive by online retailers – but we’re unlikely to see those figures until early next year.

It will be highly surprising if there’s not a major rise in the online retail figures,   as all indications are that more and more Australians are buying stuff online, driven not only by the arrival of Amazon Down Under, but also by the effort other Australian services are putting in to online marketing.
