Wesfarmers owned office supply retailer, Officeworks, has debuted a new tech support subscription service (‘GeekCover’), following a significant spike in tech aid from work-from-home employees during the coronavirus pandemic.
The news comes as Australians embrace the ’new normal’ prompt by the COVID19, with demand for at-home tech support climbing to an ‘unprecedented’ levels according to Officeworks.
Latest ABS numbers reveal around 46% of all working Australians were working from home in late April-May, resulting in an uptick in IT support services.
‘GeekCover’ is launched by Officeworks in collaboration with mobile IT repairer, Geeks2U, with 12-month memberships starting from $9.95/month for households.
It comes after Officeworks acquired Geeks2U early last year, with business plans for ‘GeekCover’ starting from $19.95/month for businesses.
“With more people working, learning and creating from home than ever before, we’ve leant on our partnership with IT specialists, Geeks2U, to create the latest must-have subscription service,” states Officeworks Merchandise Business Manager, Sandy Young.
“After acquiring Geeks2U in March last year, we are proud to be launching GeekCover, which provides Australian homes and businesses with affordable, accessible and complete tech support.”
GeekCover offers unlimited remote tech support, coupled with ‘low’ on-site call-out fees and critical security alerts/recommendations in the event of widespread cybersecurity attack.
Business subscribers will also gain access to annual on-site IT checks, proactive system health monitoring for a nominated PC/laptop, and internet security software.
Upfront yearly subscriptions will notch lower fees.
