Next iPhone Suffers A Setback

One of the biggest new features of the next iPhone may not be ready in time for launch.

Apple is expected to introduce wireless charging technology into what is being called the iPhone 8, following in the footsteps of companies like Samsung and its Galaxy S8.

This inductive charging, which typically involves placing a smartphone on some kind of powered charging pad, “might be late” according John Gruber of Daring Fireball.

Gruber noted the feature may instead be introduced in a version of iOS 11 released after the phone launches, similar to how Portrait mode was released for the iPhone 7 Plus.

Additionally, Gruber suggested an inductive charging accessory won’t be included with the iPhone 8, and will instead be made available at an additional cost.

Contrary to previous suggestions, the release of the iPhone 8 itself is not expected to be delayed, with indications suggesting it will be become available in the typical September/October launch window.

Along with wireless charging, an OLED display are expected to be among the major new features of the upcoming iPhone.
