Garmin may be preparing to unveil its next premium outdoor smartwatch after a previously unknown wearable appeared in newly published certification documents in the United States.

A device carrying the model number A05216 has been listed with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), fuelling speculation that Garmin is getting ready to expand its endurance-focused smartwatch lineup.

Although Garmin has not identified the model in the filing, recent discoveries within the Garmin Connect app referencing an Enduro 4 have prompted industry observers to believe the certification could relate to the long-rumoured successor to the Enduro 3.

The regulatory documents do not reveal the design of the smartwatch, but they do provide insight into its technical capabilities. According to the filing, the device supports Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, dual-band Wi-Fi operating on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, along with GPS connectivity.

The certification also indicates the smartwatch has been engineered for demanding outdoor environments. It is rated to operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 50°C, making it suitable for activities such as trail running, hiking and endurance events in a wide range of climates.

Additional technical details reveal the watch will use Garmin’s proprietary charging connector. The documentation lists standard charging at between 10V and 24V DC with a maximum current of 2A, while USB charging is supported separately at 5V and 3A.

The filing also references a redesigned inverted-F GPS antenna, which could potentially improve satellite reception and location accuracy during outdoor activities.

While the certification stops short of confirming the product’s identity, the timing has strengthened expectations that a replacement for the Enduro 3 may be approaching. Garmin’s current endurance smartwatch has now been available for more than two years, making it one of the older premium models in the company’s portfolio.

Another clue comes from the FCC’s confidentiality request, which keeps product images hidden until mid-November. Manufacturers typically request confidential treatment when a product is expected to launch before regulatory documents become publicly available, suggesting an announcement could arrive within the next few months.

If the smartwatch does prove to be the Enduro 4, it is expected to continue Garmin’s focus on exceptional battery life and advanced outdoor fitness tracking. Industry speculation also points to the possibility of new features such as enhanced satellite communication or hardware derived from Garmin’s future Fenix smartwatch platform.

For now, Garmin remains silent on its plans. However, the latest certification represents one of the clearest indications yet that the company’s next flagship endurance smartwatch could soon be ready for launch.
