8BitDo Unveils Nintendo 64-Inspired Accessories To Mark Console’s 30th Anniversary
8BitDo is tapping into gaming nostalgia with the release of two special edition accessories inspired by the Nintendo 64, celebrating three decades since the iconic console first launched.
The company has revealed Clear Blue versions of its Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard and Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller, both finished in a translucent design that pays tribute to one of the Nintendo 64’s most recognisable colour schemes.
The accessories were first announced for the Chinese market, but 8BitDo has also confirmed they will be available in the United States. Based on current exchange rates, the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard is expected to retail for around A$155, while the Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller is priced at approximately A$93, although Australian pricing has yet to be announced.
The Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard features several design elements that reference the original Nintendo 64 controller. Its transparent blue casing is paired with yellow directional keys inspired by the console’s famous C-buttons, while the A, B and Start keys adopt the same blue, green and red colours found on Nintendo’s classic gamepad.
Although the appearance has been refreshed, the keyboard retains the same hardware as the standard Retro 87 model. It includes an aluminium mounting plate, hot-swappable switches and Cloud Gray linear switches developed in partnership with HUANO.
Users can connect the keyboard via Bluetooth, 2.4GHz wireless or USB cable, with compatibility extending across Windows and Android devices. It also supports customisation through 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software V2.

The keyboard package includes two matching Super Buttons, although these are wired rather than wireless.
The Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller has received a similar retro-inspired makeover. It combines a translucent blue upper shell with colourful ABXY buttons, grey analogue sticks and a semi-transparent white lower casing reminiscent of several special edition Nintendo 64 consoles released during the late 1990s.
Internally, the controller remains unchanged. Features include TMR thumbsticks, RGB lighting rings, six-axis motion controls and a 1000Hz polling rate when connected via USB or 2.4GHz wireless. The controller is compatible with Windows, Android, SteamOS and Apple devices.
While 8BitDo has previously launched accessories themed around popular video games, this marks the company’s first Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller designed to celebrate an iconic games console itself.
The Nintendo 64 edition of the Ultimate 2 Wireless Controller is available now, while the Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard is scheduled to launch on 14 August. Pre-orders have already opened through 8BitDo’s online store.
