Apple’s M2 Pro and M2 Max chips have only recently found a home in their MacBook Pro laptops, but a reliable report says next-gen Apple chips could make an impact in a new MacBook Air in just months.
The claims state a refreshed 13″ MacBook Air featuring an M3 chip could land in the second half of the year, which would potentially represent the most substantial performance increase in a laptop for the California company since the new silicon was bought into play in 2020.
The next-gen M3 is expected to be made with a 3-nanometre process, which should bring significant gains in performance and efficiency in comparison to what’s currently on the table, with the M2 chips made using a 5nm process.
When the M2 chips launched, it wasn’t exactly viewed as a leap, as they were 5nm, like the M1 chips before them. There were whispers Apple would shuffle them to a 3nm process, but that talk never came to fruition.
Now, an M3 MacBook Air would see Apple set the pace with a device that combines improved performance, efficient cooling and longer battery life.
