New 4K Apple TV Fails To Deliver 4K

It seems that the new Apple 4K TV offering is not what Apple made out at their launch and all those owners who want to watch YouTube UHD 4K content using their new overpriced Apple box, forget it.

When Tim Cook announced that the new Apple TV would support 4K video, he also claimed iTunes customers who had already purchased movies would receive a free upgrade to the Ultra HD picture quality.

As it turns out, Apple TV will only be able to display 4K video if a user is streaming it which means that users are going to have to have a high speed connection.

The new information is contained in an Apple support document recently put out by the big US Company.

What this means is that if you have purchased and own a 4K version of a movie, you’ll only be able to access it as Full HD even when your Apple TV is connected to a high-speed Wi-Fi connection.

Watching a downloaded version of a 4K movie or viewing it on a slow Wi-Fi connection will produce an HD version — but not one in 4K.

The Apple document explains that “you can download a local copy of an HD movie, and you might be able to download HDR and Dolby Vision versions,” but if you want to enjoy 4K offline, you’re out of luck.

In addition, the Apple TV 4K does not yet support 4K YouTube content, nor does it have an app for Amazon Video, which will also stream movies in Ultra HD.
