While Neil Young tearing his music down from Spotify, in protest against the platform spreading COVID misinformation, has been the biggest music story of the past month, it seems that some of his catalogue has remained online.
A quick search of his name on Spotify shows both ‘Heart Of Gold’ and ‘Harvest Moon’ are available, via the Eat Pray Love soundtrack, Rockin’ In The Free World and Down By The River are on the 100 Greatest Rock Songs compilation, while The Needle and the Damage Done is on the 100 Greatest Sad Songs collection.
It’s worth noting these are among his biggest hits, and not just album filler.
Similarly, the four albums Joni Mitchell made for Geffen Records between 1982 and 1991 remain on the streaming service, along with a live recording from 1968 which features renditions of her hits Both Sides Now and Chelsea Morning.
Young said Spotify “can have Rogan or Young. Not both.”
It seems he is wrong.
