MWC 2019: Huawei Mate 20 Pro Wins Best Smartphone

Despite an ongoing privacy scandal, Huawei products continue to deliver spectacular performances, including the Huawei Mate 20 Pro which just won “Best Smartphone” at MWC 2019.

The Chinese technology company also bagged the “Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough” for the Huawei 5G RAN Innovation, the very technology banned from Australia, New Zealand, the US, and others 5G network build.

“Several benefits originate from this innovation – it demonstrates a good way of lowering the cost of 5G deployment and increasing capacity and coverage, especially with reuse of existing hardware, and existing along with new spectrum,” said the judges.

MWC judges say that the Mate 20 Pro “is the ultimate device made for those who will not settle for anything less than perfection”.

Touting the ‘Kirin 980’ world’s first 7nm Mobile AI chipset, which they say “delivers flagship performance, efficiency and AI capability”.

They also pointed to the device’s Leica Triple Camera with Leica Ultra Wide Angle Lens, and the handset’s 3D Face Unlock with an improved in-screen fingerprint sensor for advanced security.

“An overwhelming winner among our panel of leading industry experts, the fantastic cameras, stabilisation and battery life among other features on this device are real testament to this company’s efforts to become a leading smartphone player.”

Google won the “Disruptive Device Innovation Award” for Google Night Sight, Samsung won “Best Wearable Mobile Technology” for the Samsung Galaxy Watch, and Best Connected Consumer Device went to Secure Live-Finger Detection Solution.

No surprise, Best Content and Media Innovation went to Epic Games for its smash hit the phenomenally successful Fortnite franchise.

“Taking the world by storm, the creation of a truly cross-platform multiplayer online experience and very clever marketing strategy has not only resulted in a gaming sensation but transformed the business model of the company behind it,” judges said of Fortnite.
