Motorola is joining the ultra-thin smartphone race with its upcoming Edge 70, which is set to combine premium design with serious staying power.

The company confirmed an official reveal on November 5, with teaser drops planned weekly in the lead-up to launch.

The Edge 70 will compete directly with Apple’s iPhone Air and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, both of which kicked off the 2025 trend toward razor-thin flagships.

Despite its slim 6mm frame, Motorola says the Edge 70 will pack a 4,800mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is far larger than the iPhone Air’s 3,149mAh and the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 3,900mAh units.

The new battery tech promises improved efficiency and higher energy density, potentially allowing the Edge 70 to last longer than its ultra-thin rivals without compromising size.

Powering the phone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

A 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and dual 50MP rear cameras, including one with optical image stabilisation, round out the key specs. The phone will ship with Android 16 and Motorola’s Hello UI.

In Europe, retailer listings show pricing between €709 and €801 (A$1,200–$1,350).

Motorola’s teasers have leaned heavily on design and endurance, which are two areas thin phones have struggled to balance.

If the Edge 70 delivers genuine day-long battery life in a sub-6mm chassis, it could shake up the category and re-establish Motorola as a major contender in premium Android hardware.

The big questions now are how well the new silicon-carbon battery performs in real-world testing and whether Motorola can match the polish and ecosystem appeal of Apple and Samsung.
