Motorola is preparing to unveil its latest premium smartphone, the Signature 27, with the company putting cameras front and centre.

The Signature 27 is the successor to Motorola’s first Signature smartphone, which launched earlier this year and featured a slim design and a triple 50-megapixel rear-camera system. The new model appears to be taking a different approach, with leaked and teased images showing a much more substantial camera arrangement.

Images of the Signature 27 show four rear cameras arranged in an asymmetric camera module, along with an LED flash. Motorola has also teased the handset ahead of its official unveiling, although the company has yet to disclose the complete camera specifications.

Reports indicate that the main camera could feature a 200-megapixel sensor, which has the potential to give Motorola a significant increase in resolution over the 50-megapixel primary camera in the current Signature.

Motorola is expected to officially reveal the Signature 27 on September 22, coinciding with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit. The timing has fuelled speculation that the new smartphone will use Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship Snapdragon platform.

The handset has also been teased in two colours, Pantone Coal Smoke and Pantone Capulet Olive. Motorola looks to be continuing the premium styling of the original Signature, while also hinting at more distinctive materials and finishes.

A Swarovski-linked special edition, for example, has also been tipped. Motorola previously offered a Swarovski Crystal version of the Signature.

The original Signature featured a 6.8-inch pOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, up to 16GB of RAM and a 5,200mAh battery. Its rear cameras consisted of 50-megapixel main, ultra-wide and periscope telephoto sensors, with 3x optical zoom.
