Microsoft Working On New Smart Speaker

Its seems Microsoft has been trying for a while to dip its toes into the smart speaker market and it might soon have its own device.

The only thing close to a smart speaker Microsoft has done is the Harman Kardon Invoke with Cortana as its smart assistant, released late last year.

According to German site Win Future, Microsoft is working with Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer on this possible smart speaker.

The device will feature Snapdragon 212 SoC hinting at an affordable device.

Microsoft will inevitably be competing with Google, Amazon,  Apple and maybe Facebook in the market.

The project is still in the early stages, with the design of the reference boards only recently been completed, according to reports.

This means Microsoft may not even go ahead with a smart speaker in the first place but just do a reference design for other manufacturers.
