Microsoft CEO Blames Sony For Xbox Exclusives
If it was up to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, there would be no such thing as Xbox-exclusive gaming titles, but Sony has forced the company’s hand.
Nadella made the comments in his testimony during the ongoing FTC v. Microsoft saga, after being asked about Xbox exclusives.
“If it was up to me I would love to get rid of the entire exclusives on consoles, but that’s not for me to define – especially as a low share player in the console market,” he said.
“The dominant player there [Sony] has defined market competition using exclusives, so that’s the world we live in. I have no love for that world.”
This comes the day after Sony’s PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan pointed out it wasn’t in Microsoft’s best interest to make Activision games available on multiple platforms.
Ryan refused to answer, after a Microsoft lawyers asked: “If you were running Xbox, would you recommend making Call of Duty and other Activision games exclusive to Xbox and PC?”
“That’s a hypothetical question that I don’t wish to answer,” Ryan replied, adding he didn’t “have enough knowledge to answer that question.”
