Microsoft Ceases Windows 7 & 8.1 Forum Support

Microsoft has officially ceased forum support for Windows 7, 8.1 and 8.1 RT. Announced on July 9th, the company affirmed it would no longer be providing “proactive reviews”, “monitoring”, “answering or answer marking questions” for the older Windows operating systems.

Amongst others, community forum support has also been terminated for Office 2010, Office 2013, Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Internet Explorer 10.

As per Net Marketshare’s recent numbers, Windows 7 remains Microsoft’s most widely used OS – with a 43.8% market share.

Windows 10 trails behind at 31.3%, with Windows 8.1 OS a measly 5.8% – the later notably behind Windows XP.

Despite the news, Windows 7 is set to receive extended support until mid-January 2020, and Windows 8.1 until January 2023.
