Dell Technologies Founder and Chairman Michael Dell and wife Susan in collaboration with President Donald Trump will gift 25 million American children $250 each to initiate investment accounts for their futures.

The US$6.25bn gift is part of the president’s “Trump accounts” created under the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” and also includes seed accounts with $1,000 for each child born between 2025 and 2028.

Mr Dell, 60, says he is initially targeting zip codes with median household incomes below $150,000 and expects to reach 80% of US children in that age range, according to Bloomberg, which announced the details of the new children accounts.

“We believe that if every child can see a future that’s worth saving for, we’re going to build something far greater than an account,” Dell said in an interview with Bloomberg. “We will build hope and opportunity and prosperity for generations to come.”

Direct handouts and gifts are becoming a feature of the Trump regime which sees them as an election winner longer term.

President Trump has already proposed issuing $2000 cheques for low and middle income Americans which he claims would be funded by revenue from global tariffs. These cheques are expected to be issued in mid 2026, ahead of the US midterm elections.

Previously he proposed US$1390 stimulus cheques, again for low and middle income Americans. At the time he said the payments were designed to ease household burdens from inflation and high living costs.

“To philanthropists, companies, community leaders, if you want to be part of something truly meaningful for our kids, for our communities, for our country, join us,” Dell told Bloomberg.

It reports that Dell’s plan is additional to a broader government plan beginning July 2026 where any parent can open an account for a child and contribute up to US$5,000 a year. Employers can add in $2,500 annually without any tax being charged. Gifts from Dell and others also won’t impact tax.
