Revealed: Hottest ‘Droids In OZ
As Apple unleashes new iPhone interface, Android is Aussie’s top smartphone OS – even though we are an Apple loving nation.
Telstra have revealed to Channel News its most popular smartphones in 2013 – all Androids.
Australia biggest telco says Android based phones are its most popular – especially Samsung Galaxys, HTC One and Sony Xperia.
“During the first 6 months of 2013 Android devices have been popular with Telstra customers; with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy range, the HTC One range and Sony Xperia standing out,” a Telstra spokesperson said. Note, there was no mention of iPhone 4S/5 or BlackBerry, although the burst of new Androids on the scene in 2013 has definitely helped propel the platform.
New research also shows Google Android has extended its lead in Australia in the past six months, thanks to the release of hero smarties like Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z, according to analysts Telsyte.
Samsung has already sold 10 million S4’s globally and HTC One is hailed as one of the best phones on the market, and both have been heavily marketed.
Microsoft Windows 8 smartphones are also increasing marketshare, driven by Nokia’s Lumia 920, says local analysts Telsyte.
Analyst figures last week predicts Android and Apple share of the smartphone market will drop, with Windows phones to gain huge ground.
