Mailchimp Email Service, Used By Retailers Hacked
Email marketing company Mailchimp, whose service is used by several leading retailers, distributors and CE and appliance brands has been hacked, the service is also used by 4Square Media for our newsletter programs.
Siobhan Smyth, chief information security officer at Mailchimp claims that the Companies security team became aware that a malicious actor had accessed an internal tool used by customer-facing teams for support and account administration.
Smith said that this was a focused and targeted incident.
Several accounts were accessed, and data stolen, at this stage Mailchimp has failed to notify users of the service that the hack attack took place or whether any Australian users’ databases have been accessed.
At this stage we know that 300 Mailchimp accounts were accessed, and audience data was exported from several accounts.
Mailchimp has since received reports that the hacker was using the information obtained from user accounts to send phishing campaigns to their contacts.
Intuit the maker of TurboTax and QuickBooks software, acquired Mailchimp for $12 billion in cash and stock last year.
