CES 2023: WebOS To Get Overall 2023 Version To Be Matter Compatible

Consumer feedback about LG Electronics 2021 Web OS update which is now appearing on a multitude of third-party TV has revealed that consumers were not happy with the redesign which like the Samsung Tizen overall appeared to be more about click revenue from apps and advertising.

At CES 2023 it has been revealed that LG has moved to slim down their Web OS with the Company tipped to reveal a new split screen version and Matter compatibility.

Web OS 2023 is also set to see the introduction of new tabs and new software capability, which will take advantage of a new processor that delivers faster processing, the processor is set to be revealed as part of the LG 2023 TV range.

What is not known is whether LG will bring back the popular bottom menu or stay with full screen layout that was designed to deliver advertising and services from third party partners.

The main screen is set to feature a large carousel with sponsored content with advertising dished up from which LG Electronics takes a percentage cut which is why the WEB OS software has been given away free to multiple TV brands.

There will also be user-customizable row of ‘quick cards’ and a row of installed apps. Quick cards can open new sections such as ‘Game’, ‘Music’, ‘Sport’, and ‘Home Office’.

Currently TV brands such as LG and Samsung are raking in millions from the likes of Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Paramount as well as Foxtel and Stan when consumers sign up to their streaming services via the Web OS software.

In webOS 23, each user will be able to load up a personal image, they will also be able to customise their personal landing page.

More importantly the new software and the new LG processor will be Matter compatible the new unified smart home connectivity standard backed by over five hundred brands who are looking for a unified approach to SmartHouse systems management.

Matter devices from other companies connected via the LG ThinQ app will show up and be controllable from the Home Hub in LG’s 2023 TVs.
