LG Unveils Durable Smartphone With Long Battery Life

Targeting those who need a more resilient and durable device, LG have announced a new smartphone with a slew of features and certifications for maximum protection.

The LG X Venture is pitched by the company as a “tough adventure companion device that doesn’t sacrifice on features or looks”. The smartphone features IP68 water and dust protection as well as temperature and shock resistance.

The device also passed 14 MIL-STD 810G tests designed for the US Military, and was also repeatedly immersed in 1.5 metres of water during test for up to 30 minutes without issue.

“Consumers with active lifestyles want devices that they don’t need to coddle or worry about when they’re on the go,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

“But the LG X venture isn’t a ruggedized phone that makes sacrifices. Its long list of features, long battery life and excellent photo capabilities makes it the ideal companion for customers who wants a phone that works anytime, anywhere.”

A 4,100mAh battery helps the LG X Venture last for up to 24 hours between charges according to LG, while Quick Charge 2.0 allows charging from 0 to 50% in 48 minutes.

The smartphone also features a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a 5MP wide angle front-facing camera and a 16MP rear-racing camera, and is powered by the lower-end Snapdragon 435 processor

LG have incorporated three physical keys on the front of the device to allow for easier interaction in a greater variety of situations, such as wearing gloves and in wet or muddy environments.

A ‘QuickButton’ on the side of the smartphone can be customised to launch any app, but by default it launches LG’s ‘Outdoor Essentials’ app which includes weather, a barometer, compass, activity counter, exercise tracker, and a flashlight. The button can also be held to launch settings, or double pressed to launch Glove Mode for recognising touch screen interactions with gloved fingers.

The device is the second X series smartphone launched by LG this year following the LG X Power2.

Pricing and availability for Australia has not been announced, but pricing in the US is set at about $15 a month on a 30 month contract.
