LG Ready To Dominate Large OLED TV Market This Year
Recent reports reveal LG Electronics has significantly increased its demand for OLED TV panels this year, as the South Korean giant aims to capitalise on continued market demand.
Sources claim LG Electronics has set its sight upon dominating the large-sized OLED TV market in 2018.
According to Taiwanese trade publication, DigiTimes, LG Electronics will increase its consumption of TV-sized OLED panels by more than 30% this year – a notable increase of ~2 million units.
In 2017, LG Electronics obtained 1.5 million large-sized OLED TV panels from its subsidiary, LG Display.
As such, LG Display will reportedly increase its production of large-size OLED panels to three million units this year. It follows an output of 2 million units produced the year before.
LG Display is forecast to ship 500,000 OLED panels to several other vendors – such as Sony and some Chinese TV makers – in 2018.
Sharp has also revealed it intends to ramp up production of OLED panels this year. The Japanese company will reportedly scale back its production of LTPS and a-Si panels.
Sources state Sharp plans to phase out most of its LTPS production by the end of this year, and replace with OLED.
