A Kea parrot in New Zealand has stolen a GoPro From a tourist family who were filming him and his mates, giving them a bird’s-eye view of the national park they were in after he flew off with it.
The family had been on a hike through the park on the NZ South Island when one of their kids put the action cam down to grab some footage of the cheeky birds bustling around nearby.
Before long, the budding avian action director grabbed the camera and flew off, with his flock close behind and the cam still rolling, grabbing footage of the impressive Kiwi landscape.
The Kea soon decided to take a time out, possibly to ponder his next shot.
The family thought they’d seen the last of the GoPro, but headed off in the general direction Kea Spielberg had flown off in.
It turns out the bird had dropped the cam on a rock, and footage later showed it pecking away at it, before tearing a plastic strip off the casing.
When one of the children found it, he yelled out to the family, “I’ve found it,” causing the bird bandit and his mates to take to the air again.
