The LUMIX DMC-G3 has been named ‘European Compact System Camera of the Year 2011-2012’ for its “stunning image quality and exceptional range of features packed into a compact and lightweight design,” Panasonic said today.

So, what’s so good about the Lumix?

“The LUMIX DMC-G3 is a very small, interchangeable-lens camera which, as it is fitted with a built-in flash and electronic viewfinder, is as easy to use indoors as it is outside on a sunny day,” according to the EISA jury.

“The camera offers excellent image quality and it is capable of resolving very fine details and working in low light without producing excessive image noise.”

The micro Lumix features a new 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor, Light Speed AF, as well as 1920 x 1080 Full HD AVCHD video recording, providing exceptional image quality in a small design.

“We are very proud of Panasonic’s leadership and innovation in the Micro Four Thirds platform and have seen our range become increasingly successful in the Australian market,” says Alistair Robins, Group Marketing Manager, Panasonic LUMIX, Australia.

Other brands who got a nod from European Imaging Sound Association include: Canon EOS 600D (camera of the year), Fujifilm Finepix X100 (advanced compact) Samsung SH100 (social media camera), Nikon D7000 (advanced SRL) and Epson Stylus Photo R3000 (printer).

The Canon EOS 600D got the nod for being “a good-value camera with customisable features, excellent resolution and its low-noise characteristics even at high ISO settings make it an extremely desirable model to amateur photographers.”

Fujifilm FinePix X100  “stands out as a serious alternative to a compact system camera… with innovative new hybrid optical and electronic viewfinder, and is a very high-quality camera designed to be portable and always ready,” said the judges.
