IPhones May Change Address
At least one key iPhone maker is reportedly considering moving production of the smartphone to the US. The Nikkei Asian Review says Apple has asked two iPhone assemblers, Foxconn and Pegatron, to look into making iPhones in the US.
The report says Foxconn has complied, but Pegatron declined to consider the proposal due to cost concerns. Taiwan-based Foxconn and Pegatron both assemble iPhones in huge Chinese plants.
Apple declined to comment, but has previously said that, along with cost, the barrier to moving iPhone production to the US is expertise.
The news follows Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election. Trump has been vocal in his claim that US companies should build their products in America.
