Insta360’s next flagship 360-degree action camera looks to be edging closer to launch after the upcoming Insta360 X6 cleared a key US regulatory hurdle.

The camera has reportedly been approved by the US Federal Communications Commission under the model number CINSABXA, with filings covering Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, antenna components and radiation exposure testing.

The US approval follows earlier certifications in markets including China, India and the UAE, suggesting Insta360 is preparing for a wider global rollout. Industry reports are now pointing to a possible launch between late August and September this year.

Insta360 has not yet confirmed the X6 or released official specifications, but leaks suggest the camera could deliver a major upgrade over the current X5.

The biggest rumoured improvement is support for 8K 360-degree video at 60 frames per second, up from 8K at 30fps on the X5.

The X6 is also tipped to feature improved HDR performance, 10-bit colour and a larger image sensor, potentially a 1-inch or dual 1/1.28-inch CMOS setup, aimed at improving low-light capture and overall image quality.

Other reports suggest the X6 could push still image resolution beyond 100MP, with better stitching, a larger battery in the 2,600mAh to 3,000mAh range, and upgraded AI-powered editing and subject tracking tools.

The camera is also expected to retain core X-series features such as strong stabilisation, waterproofing, rugged construction and tight integration with Insta360’s mobile app.

Pricing is tipped to be between US$549 and US$599, which converts to roughly A$840 to A$920 before local taxes, retail margins and official Australian pricing.

With FCC approval now in place, official teasers from Insta360 could arrive in the coming weeks.
