IFA 2018: Lenovo Debuts Connected Home Hub – Smart Lights, Plugs & Camera

PC behemoth, Lenovo, has become the latest company to establish its connected home ecosystem, launching its ‘Smart Essential’ range in Berlin, featuring a smart plug, smart camera and smart light bulb – all compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice controls.

Lenovo’s Smart Essentials range claims to be a “one-stop shop” for today’s intelligent home, controlled by its ‘Link’ app, which manageas all devices, rather than one app per product.

Via the app, users can control specific groups of devices at once, or automate actions at certain points throughout a day.

Applications include automatically turning on lights after dusk, or controlling a surveillance camera via voice commands.

Similar to Kogan’s newly launched SmarterThings range, Lenovo’s new Smart Plug claims to convert any outlet powered product into a ‘smart device’ with app control.

Lenovo’s Smart Essentials range will launch in the United States in November, before expanding to Australia sometime later.

(Australian pricing and availability yet to be confirmed)

Lenovo Smart Plug – a small, simple-to-use device that can be plugged into any open outlet, letting users control any compatible device that’s plugged into it
Lenovo Smart Camera – a smart surveillance camera that lets you monitor live video footage inside the home—even at night—through infrared night vision. Its built-in mic and speaker allow for two-way audio capability
Lenovo Smart Bulb – a smart light bulb that lets users remotely schedule and customise lighting—adjusting color temperature and dim brightness, or turning it on and off from anywhere and at any time through the Lenovo Link app.
