IFA 2018: Acer Launches Worlds Lightest & Thinest Notebooks
Apart from launching one of the worlds most advanced gaming machines and a virtual reality pod, Acer has also used IFA 2018 to roll out the world’s lightest PC.
The radically improved Acer Swift 5 is the world’s lightest 15-inch notebook weighing in at just 990 grams. This has been achieved through the use of new materials resulting in Acer rolling out a magnesium-lithium alloy body and under the bonnet an option of 8th-generation Intel Core i7 and i5 processor.
Set to retail for around $1,690 the new Swift 5 was described by Acer CEO Jason Chen as “arguably the most exciting” laptop Acer has ever showed off.
The Acer Swift 5 has 14-inch 1080p display and up to 16GB of DDR4 memory. There’s Intel UHD Graphics 630, plus up to 512GB of solid-state storage. Acer says the 15.6-inch Swift 5 (SF515-51T) should run up to 10 hours, while the 14-inch Swift 5 (SF514-53T) will last up to 8.
Also updated is the Acer Swift 3 product range with new 13.3 and 14-inch models set to be launched in Australia. More portable and designed with slimmer bezels these models are set to retail for around $1,400.
Acer also showed off a new Chromebook, the Chromebook 514, which comes with a 14-inch screen, aluminium chassis and a 12 hour battery life.
