HP has unveiled a refreshed lineup of EliteBook laptops and Z-series workstations, signalling a clear shift toward AI-first computing for business users.

Leading the lineup is the new EliteBook 6 G2q, positioned as a “next-gen AI PC” built to handle local AI workloads rather than relying on the cloud.

Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Plus processors, the device delivers up to 85 TOPS of neural processing unit (NPU) performance, enabling faster on-device AI tasks.

HP is pitching the EliteBook 6 G2q at mobile professionals and enterprise users, combining lightweight design with long battery life and always-on connectivity, including optional 5G.

The company claims up to 28 hours of battery life. Security remains a key focus, with HP Wolf Pro Security and new physical intrusion detection features aimed at protecting sensitive data.

The broader EliteBook 6 G2 range expands significantly, with multiple configurations across AMD and Intel platforms, different form factors, and even Chromebook options. HP is clearly moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach, instead offering tailored devices for different enterprise needs.

HP has also refreshed its ZBook mobile workstations, including the ZBook X G2i and ZBook 8 series.

These machines are designed for heavier AI workloads, creative applications and complex simulations, with options for discrete graphics, high memory configurations, and both AMD and Intel processors. Despite the performance focus, HP is emphasising portability for hybrid work environments.

A key part of HP’s strategy is its new AI layer, HP IQ, which enables local AI experiences across devices. Combined with proximity-based features like NearSense, HP is aiming to improve cross-device workflows, such as seamless file transfers and collaboration, without sending data to the cloud.

HP says this “local-first” approach delivers faster performance, improved reliability and stronger data privacy.

The new devices are expected to roll out from April through July, with pricing yet to be confirmed.
