Australian shoppers spent April preparing for cooler weather, home entertaining and outdoor downtime, with new Shopify data revealing strong growth across household, fashion and lifestyle categories.

The latest monthly product trends report from the e-commerce platform showed spending patterns shifting towards practical home items, cosy clothing and backyard upgrades as autumn settled in across the country.

Products linked to entertaining at home recorded some of the strongest gains. Beverage dispensers surged by 309.5 per cent month-on-month, while demand for bread boxes and bread bags climbed 159.2 per cent. Food mixers and blenders also jumped 158.1 per cent as consumers increasingly embraced home cooking and baking.

Cocktail-making products were another standout category, with cocktail shakers and related tools rising 114.9 per cent as more Australians invested in home hosting setups.

The arrival of colder weather also boosted sales of heating-related products. Space heaters increased 80.9 per cent, while heating radiators rose 64.8 per cent as households prepared for winter conditions.

Bedroom furniture and sleep-related purchases also trended higher. Slat beds and bed frames climbed 136.9 per cent, while innerspring mattresses nearly doubled, rising 99.7 per cent compared with the previous month.

Outdoor living products saw particularly sharp growth, suggesting many Australians were upgrading gardens and entertainment areas ahead of winter gatherings. Garden hose sales surged 663.5 per cent, while firepits jumped 242 per cent.

Camping and outdoor leisure products also gained momentum. Portable generators rose 305.3 per cent, hammocks increased 153.2 per cent and fishing reel sales climbed 57.6 per cent, reflecting continued interest in off-grid travel, regional escapes and outdoor recreation.

Fashion trends meanwhile showed a mix of comfort-focused purchases and social media-driven accessories. Baguette-style handbags recorded a 75.6 per cent increase during April, making them one of the strongest-performing fashion categories nationwide.

Footie socks emerged as the top trending fashion item overall, with sales up 121.4 per cent month-on-month. Leggings also recorded strong growth at 70.6 per cent as consumers continued favouring casual and flexible wardrobe staples.

Children’s sleepwear demand increased 50.2 per cent, while pet owners also leaned into colder-weather comfort products, pushing pet coat sales up 78 per cent.

Fitness purchases suggested many Australians are continuing to favour home-based exercise over traditional gym memberships. Cardio machine accessories increased 46 per cent, while balance boards climbed 39 per cent as shoppers built more adaptable at-home workout routines.

Sporting equipment also maintained solid momentum throughout the month. Baseball gloves rose 77 per cent and baseball bats increased 63 per cent, indicating growing interest in recreational sport participation heading into winter.
