Has Oppo Picked The Wrong Processor For Hero Reno3?

With several big brands including Samsung, TCL Mobile and Apple set to use the all new Snapdragon 865 SoC processor in 2020 new testing shows that it really screams along which could be a problem for Oppo who has chosen to invest in second tier processor player MediaTek for their all new Reno3 which is set to be launched early in the new year.

Qualcomm claim it’ll be the best new processor on the market in 2020, but now we’ve got actual benchmarks to look at.

A Chinese manufacturer who is set to use the new Qualcomm processor ran Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 reference device (codenamed ‘Kona’) through AnTuTu a benchmark ranking system, and the results were as Qualcomm claimed ‘exceptional’.

In AnTuTu, the chipset manages to score of 568,919 points, which puts it above every commercial smartphone currently available on the market.

It’s a marked improvement over the Snapdragon 855 which averaged around 450,000 points, and even manages to nudge the iPhone 11 Pro Max and its Apple A13 Bionic chip aside.

Compared with the Snapdragon 855+, Kirin 990 5G and MediaTek Dimensity 1000 being used in the Oppo Reno3 the Snapdragon 865 still retains a clean lead over all their competitors.

The Snapdragon 865 was announced at a recent Qualcomm summit in Maui, Hawaii with the Company claiming the new processor will deliver up to a 25 percent increase in CPU and GPU performance, twice the performance increase in AI tasks and lower power consumption across the board.
