Sales figures have shown what has been obvious to anyone shopping for a GPU over the past few years: prices have more than doubled since before the pandemic.

German retailer Mindfactory has shared its sales data, the only major seller to do so, and usually an accurate gauge of the average pricing across the market.

In February 2020, the average sale price for an AMD graphics card was A$459, with a Nvidia card going for an average of A$662 (pricing converted from euros)

This month, the ASP for an AMD card was A$932, while a Nvidia card averages out at A$1,280.

Percentagewise, this is a 103 per cent increase for AMD, and 93 per cent jump for Nvidia.

During an investors day last March, Jeff Fisher, Nvidia’s senior vice president, boasted that the RTX 3000-series is much pricier than previous generations.

“The GPU is offering more value than ever,” Fisher told investors.

“Based on our data, they are spending $300 [$437] more than they paid for the graphics card they replaced.”
