Google Wants To Make Online Shopping Even Faster
Google has unveiled a series of updates to Google Pay and Google Wallet designed to simplify online purchases and reduce the steps required to complete transactions.
One of the biggest changes is the introduction of direct checkout through Google Pay. The feature allows shoppers to use payment methods already stored in Google Wallet directly on participating retailer websites, eliminating the need to manually enter card details. The system is currently available through merchants using Airwallex, with support for Adyen expected to follow.

Google has also streamlined its payment verification process. Instead of requiring one-time passcodes or redirecting users to separate authentication pages, purchases can now be confirmed using biometric verification. According to Google, testing found that authentication times were reduced by 50 per cent, while completed purchases increased by 3 per cent. The feature is scheduled to launch initially in the UK and Poland.
Beyond payments, Google Wallet is expanding its digital identity capabilities. Selected European countries will gain support for digital IDs, while a partnership with Sparkasse Bank will allow customers to verify their age without disclosing personal information such as their name or address.
The company is also enhancing its digital car key functionality, enabling users to share vehicle access with others while assigning different permission levels through Google Wallet.
